COUNTDOWN: 愛♡シテル feat. junniorkopke

Happy New Year, my dearly beloved plastic lovers! ♥

In contrast with the previous two posts, published on the last minute of 2010, this COUNTDOWN is published on the first minute of 2011! I want to begin a new year full of love, warmth, harmony, all of these preciosities we all cherish, and that’s why I wanted Plastic Candy’s first post this 2011 to be a love songs COUNTDOWN with the lovely junniorkopke!

For those of you who, like me, can’t read Japanese (yet), the title 愛♡シテル (Ai♡shiteru/Aishiteru) means “I love you”, and this time, Junnior and I wanted to bring you two sides of love, the bright, fresh, hopeful side, as well as the saddened, melancholy, sentimental side, so each of us were responsible for finding 5 tracks that represented each of these sides! I picked the lovely romantic songs and Junnior picked the beautiful sentimental ones!

We hope to have captured both feelings the best way possible through our J-Pop and K-Pop selections!

Miliyah Kato – Paradise

Paradise by Miliyah Kato makes me feel so good! It has a tropical, delicious flavor to it that’s so sweet and romantic! It’s very mellow, the instrumentals are rich and truly paradisiacal, and blend extremely well with Miliyah’s ad libbing and soft voice, she does feel in love because of the warmth she exudes through her voice. The wind instruments sound fantastic, and go so well with the signature R&B sound that is Miliyah’s own. One of my favorite love songs for sure, and the title says it all! It brings me to paradise.

Koda Kumi - 最後の雨～Time Heals Version～

Every time 最後の雨 starts playing, I feel like I’m sitting next to a window and it’s raining very hard outside, as I watch a loved one leave, with no guarantee of return. I get a feeling of impotence, where I can’t do anything to stop this person from leaving, but at the same time, a sensation that this is how it’s meant to be. As the song is reaching an end, the pain vanishes and I feel comforted, and I can just fall asleep to the sound of the rain, sleeping and thinking that good days are about to come, after every bad thing has passed.

BoA - 로망스 (Romance)

로망스 (Romance) is just a very rich, classy track! When I listen to it I get the image of candle-lit dinners, spending time with your significant other in the most romantic way possible, all of these great romantic images! It’s also composed in a very Paris-sounding fashion, bohemian and beautiful to the apex. This is the first song that popped into my mind when I thought of a romantic countdown, and as soon as you take a listen, you’ll find out why!

TVXQ – Don’t Say Goodbye

Don’t Say Goodbye is a song that gives me the feeling of suffering in anticipation for something that is still about to happen, like when you’re with the person you love, and begin to think about the moment where you’ll have to say goodbye and how painful it’ll be for both of you, and you simply want to do something reckless, like running away with this person someplace where you can be alone forever, so you never have to say goodbye, because that person is the only one who matters to you, only that person understands you, and the thought of saying goodbye is something completely unconceivable to you.

ROUND TABLE featuring Nino – Love Me Baby

This song just carries a very sweet melody, followed by very sweet vocals, and a very hopeful atmosphere. It’s like the beginning of a relationship, where everything is fresh, covered in uncertainty but conspiring in your favor. I love this song, it’s pure cuteness, innocence and I can even feel butterflies when I listen to it!

Utada Hikaru – First Love

Nobody can forget the flavor of your first love, First Love brings us back to the memories of our first love, that first person you saw when you were little, had a crush on and acted like it was the love of your life, without even going up and talking to the person, or like when we reminisce about our first kiss. Memories, First Love brings back memories of something good that is no longer here, but that doesn’t need to come back. Something that warms up your heart as you look back on such memories.

Koda Kumi – SWEET MEMORIES

From Kumi’s first cover album, SWEET MEMORIES has a nostalgic feeling even to those who don’t know the original song. The melody and the vocals are very soft and cute, and also very innocent! I can’t grasp exactly what makes this song so sweet and fresh, but I think it’s all in Kumi’s voice. She has a light feel to her singing here, and none of it feels forced at all, like she’s really casually reminiscing on sweet memories.

SHINee – 화살 (Quasimodo)

This song conveys the feeling of being just like Quasimodo locked in his tower, isolated for being different. A feeling of being isolated from the person you love, fearful of hurting yourself, but it’s stupid to protect yourself when this feeling is coming from the inside of the shield that covers your heart, and you see that trying to protect yourself will only hurt you further, and it hurts the person you love as well, killing you little by little inside, since that person is the most important being for you. This person needs to be yours and you need to give in before it’s too late.

Narsha – I’m In Love

fell in love with this song the moment I first listened to it. Everything about it is endearing: its simple composition, Narsha’s lovely soft vocals, it’s the best song to lounge and fall in love to. It makes me think of the sunset and just enjoying love and warmth. It’s more of a mature kind of love, unlike the freshness of some of the previous picks, it’s more of a love that’s forever, that you want to stand by as your one and only.

KISS – 여자이니까

여자이니까 tends to bring me a feeling of comfort, like lying on the lap of your loved one, telling him/her about your problems as him/her cares after you, and like magic, that person solves all your problems, problems you believed couldn’t be solved for the world, just by speaking a few words to you, and suddenly you find yet another reason to love him/her, seeing how he/she does everything to make you happy, be it through a piece of advice or more serious ways, and you dedicate yourself to always being by that person’s side, just like he/she is always by yours, as partners to every challenge that might cross your path, united by the love you feel for each other.
